Dave Wottle wins the 1972 Olympic 800m final with a dramatic come-from-behind victory.

Better quality video than other 800m finals video. Dave Wottle gives us one of the most brilliant Olympic performances ever, or at least the most under rated one.

Men's 800m Final 1972 Olympics This is a classic and the commentary at the end is hilarious and very much of its time. [video

On “In your opinion, what is the greatest track race of all time?”

The 2012 800m final, 1972 800m final, 2003 5000m final, 2012 100m final, and the 1996 200m final are my favorites, in no real order

On “Fuck the 800”

You might find getting in a tactical race to be best considering your speed. I'll going to assume you were leading and unless you are leagues ahead of the competition you should probably never lead. This is probably going to be your best race. Naturally runners move up in distance as they age. The jump from 400 to 800 is difficult because you are going from a race that is predominantly anaerobic to one that requires a lot more aerobic capacity. So you're going to have to train yourself you have more stamina over the off-season. link to this video here is Dave Wottle winning gold in 1972.
