What commenters say. Frequently shared to analyze block start mechanics, arm drive, shin sweep, and triple extension differences between elite sprinters.

On “Can someone pls critique my block starts & give me some tips…… thankssssss (I’m new to this)”

You have to put much more force into your front leg. You're slowing yourself down with that start when you can start driving up that momentum into the next few steps. If you're right-footed (you use your right foot to kick), then a your starting leg should definitely be on the right. !!!aLastly your starting angle should be about 45ish degrees. A great way to aid this is having your head down for the first 25 meters. link to this video Look at this clip. See their explosive start? See their angle? Powerful swinging arms? .

On “Please review my 20m accelerations”

…your shin forward, try lock your knees once you explode out from your blocks. ive attached a video at the bottom for your reference 3. for the 2nd clip, your arm swing is a little off, it should be like 90 degrees forward and 45 degrees behind (fist to eye level and 45 degrees backwards). its hard explaining it in words but i hope you get it. [video i hope this helped! if you need any further clarifications, i'll try my best to answer you…

On “Ronnie Baker advocating for triple extension…thoughts?”

Yeah, apologies. I'm not really trying to teach anyone to leap off the front block here, but it's hard-to-impossible to find something with a framerate quite like this video. I still feel like prior to block exit there are no great sins being committed but we can agree to disagree. EDIT: As I'm digging around - this is actually a nice one with quality video lol. Lyles and De Grasse side-by-side, two very different styles of start with both achieving full TE. link to this video

On “Block start advice”

Practice and exaggerate the motion. You can see how they fire their arms back and forth here. This is what it looks like link to this video

Casting/Sweeping Shin Vs Rigid Block Start I've seen a ton of variation throughout different sprinters' first step. Some, like Andre de Grasse, exhibit highly exaggerated shin sweep/casting in their first step out of the blocks. Other sprinters like Coleman exhibit an almost static femur-shin angle. The taller the sprinter, the more sweeping/casting necessary?

On “why forefeet?”

…/51906887_Ankle_joint_mechanics_and_foot_proportions_differ_between_human_sprinters_and_non-sprinters i know noah lyles isnt known for his starts but its definetly not terrible to run sub 10, anyway heres the best example i could find of the forefeet affecting ground contact time, noah lyles = longer forefeet - Andre de grasse = shorter forefeet link to this video at this point its just an assumption that noah and andre have different forefeet lengths as its about relative forefeet lengths and not absolute, so the ratio of forefoot to rearfoot are what correlated but anyway. sorry i wrote too much ive just never been able to understand the reason and unfortunately might never will :(…

On “Lack of triple extension in acceleration mechanics from top sprinters. Reasons?”

…interpret triple extension as the push, your timing is off… well off”*** says adrian barr https://www.just-fly-sports.com/podcast-64-adarian-barr/ anyway im more curious as to why some pros do it while others dont? like andre de grasse extends alot more than other pros? ive got my theories but if youve got any ideas i would like to hear them [video…

On “Just a quick check on block, other than my high heel recovery you guys notice any other issues I should work on?”

To an extent but it seems exaggerated. I find it pretty telling at 0:16 with the torso rotating. Again it may be the angle but it looks like the right fist is going across his chest, like a jab. Reference: link to this video
