Coach Vince Anderson explains how to correctly set up and execute the wicket drill using a six-stride run-in.

If you use the Wicket Drill in your program, but don't use a 6 stride lead in, well, you're doing it wrong. In this video, one of the Godfather's of the wicket drill, Vince Anderson, shows you exactly how to set it up correctly. What commenters say. Highly recommended as the definitive guide for setting up and understanding the spacing of the wicket drill.

On “Wickets form check. Cues welcome!”

What does your run in look like? What about the spacing? What I’m not seeing from this drill is aggression. Ideally, the wicket drill is a maximal effort drill. The run should start with an aggressive 6 step run in as explained in the attached video. I would recommend putting the rails of the mini hurdles down. The drill is about stepping down, not stepping over, and you’ll be smoother without the pressure of clearing the barriers. Implement these tips and you’ll be running well in a few weeks.

On “Sprinting Form: I'm struggling to increase my turnover as I sprint. I feel like I'm overstriding when running. It's like I'm doing a high knee drill instead of running very fast. Any HELP would be appreciated.”

Try the wicket drill. There are charts and video clips for Vince Anderson’s version of the drill online. Start with a version of the drill that’s almost too short for your stride and progress outward for as long as you can keep good form. And as mentioned, you must keep a good posture and maintain proper form to benefit.

Here is Vince Anderson's video explaining how to set up the vmax wicket drill. I read the doc and think this video alongside will be very beneficial. link to this video

On “"On off" Workoit”

Vince Anderson has great link to this video on setting them up and here's a chart for spacing based on PR's. Obviously there is some margin of error so you may need to adjust a bit, like you said trial and error. Still, should help you get a gauge for things.

On “Flying times to 100m”

Anything is possible. I would recommend concentrating on your sprint mechanics before you focus on your fly time. Your top speed mechanics could be the reason you’re all over the place. I would suggest working on wicket drills to help facilitate knee lift and proper arm swings. Here’s a video of Coach Vince Anderson, creator of the wicket drills. You can use them to correct your Sprint Mechanics. link to this video Be sure to follow me on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/work_equals_force_x_distance?igsh=MWFvbGZuNXJiMnBrYQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

On “Height for DIY wickets”

I made some with PVC fittings like an L. Standing one way they are 4", the other they are 6". 8yo should be 4" or lower or nothing at all. Many college programs use literal sticks (paint bucket stirring lathes from Home Depot). [video Its not about the height at all really.....its about attacking down with force, not reaching, not stepping over ...

On “Can someone explain how to read the Anderson wickets chart”

To the left margin is the height and the specifications to whom it applies to either Youth/ men/women/college athletes. To the right most margin is the number of wickets to be set up for varying athletes. Page 1: Coming to the markings/ numbers in the center, "0" indicates the starting point and the rest the distance from the starting point and not from the previous wicket and the numbers in bracket(2) indicates the number of wickets to be set up for that measurement. Page 3: It's the same thing but the distance is given in centimeters and the distance is from one wicket to another and not from starting point. Hope this helps: link to this video

On “The power of depth jumps and supercompensation”

Interesting. Do you feel like you benefit from that daily volume? If you’re interested in the wicket drill there are lots of stand ins for mini hurdles. Vince Anderson uses blinds because they allow higher success rates.

On “HOW DO I INCREASE STRIDE LENGTH?”

yah. A lot of people, even 'elite' collegiate experienced coaches will just use simple sticks or slats, [video

This video offers some explanation on how to set it up link to this video
