What commenters say. Recommended as a clear guide for learning the B-skip, specifically for understanding the pulling action of the leg at top speed.

On “I'm new to sprints and looking to improve. I was a distance runner most of last season (which was also my first time doing track) before training sprints at the end. So far my best 10m fly was 1.10 and my best 400 was a hand-timed 54 by my coach. Any form critiques are much appreciated.”

…d acceleration phases (1 and 2). What I’m talking about is the top-speed phase (4). Here are some videos that show a few common drills to work the leg movement in acceleration (a-skips) and top-speed (b-skips). In the b-skips you will see the “pull” action about which I was writing. Some of them are better than others…this was a quick search. link to this video link to this video link to this video link to this video link to this video link to this video link to this video link to this video This guy does a quick but decent job of explaining how these mechanics apply to actual sprinting: link to this video link to this video (he says pull the foot down…I don’t like that, pull backwards) Also here’s just a video I like with a lot of slow motion sprinting so you can see it in action:…

On “How to correctly do A skip B skip and C skips?”

These videos have good descriptions of how to do these properly: A skips: link to this video B skips: link to this video For C skips, I've seen these defined a few different ways, but the way I've always done them is basically as one A skip forward and one to the side, and repeat switching sides after each pair.

On “If your arms move faster your legs move faster?”

Apologies. I think I forgot mid reply that you are new here. As and Bs are a ‘series’ of drills for warming up and coordination. They don’t have a high CNS load (Central Nervous System load) meaning they won’t fry you and put your recovery straight in the toilet. With getting faster you always want to maximise what you can do by optimising how well you can recover. Running fast is the most important thing to becoming faster. Meaning the quality and speed of each sprint session will actually impact how much speed you gain. For example, have been blessed to have experience as an athlete, as an academic and as a coach to see that the current thinking in speed-only sessions (ie we don’t care abo…

On “Wanting to get stronger and faster”

…n the lower end (a slow warm-up jog) to stuff more in the middle (A-Skips for example) to stuff that loads the tendon more (strides at 75% speed). So step 1 is to have a proper warm-up. Something like: - Walk 300m - Jog 300m - Skip 300m (while skipping you can do forward arm swings for a bit, backwards arm swings for a bit) - 10 Cats + Cows (link to this video - 10 Eagles + Scorpions per side (link to this video - 8 Leg Whips per side (link to this video - 8 Scissors per side (link to this video - Drink Water Drills (done 20 meters in one direction, then 20 meters back): - A-Walks (link to this video - Hamstring Sweeps (link to this video - A-Skip (link to this video - B-Walks (link to this video - B-Skips (link to this video - Run a 50m at 50~60% top speed, slow walk ba…
