Dan Pfaff explains how to use multiple jump series to develop elastic endurance and postural awareness under fatigue.

What activities can you use to develop abilities complementary to speed endurance? We use various body weight and ground based circuits of a variety of movements to foster postural awareness and movement skills under fatigue. Our elastic endurance schemes such as ‘MJ Trek’ or ‘MJ Extended’ are Multiple Jump Series used a complementary activity to aid in elastic endurance development. Note that ‘elastic endurance’ is a rather ambiguous term that appears in numerous literature searches and coaching courses. To us, it describes the ability of the athlete to execute an efficient and desired movement signature, involving elastic component utilization that is in harmony with other propulsion systems of the human body. If an athlete exhibits a signature bounce or vertical/horizontal signature when running at top speed and that signature degrades with fatigue, then a possible area to explore is that athlete’s elastic capacity values. For the series below, dependent on athlete wellness we may use 1-2 sets over 20-40m, we often use grass for these schemes.
