On “Advice on starts: attack the ground or low heel recovery?”

…k the ground is because your shin angle is too high. I'm sure your shin angle is too high. you are attacking only downward, when what you really need is to attack down AND BACK. Action-reaction, Newton's third law. if you apply force downward, you will be propelled upward. if you apply force down and back, you will be propelled up and forward. [video especially focus on 1:55. attack down and back, and make sure your knee is more bent. don't be too discouraged if you can't do it right away. be relentless. this is by far the most difficult technical concept in sprinting. great things are not easy. I still can't do it, either, hopefully I can one day.…

Sleds are great for working on horizontal projection, wall drills can help as well. Here’s a good video on cues that might work when coming out of blocks as well :) link to this video

I wish I could figure it out. [video this is meant to help land with low shin. the cue here is to keep your hamstring and calf together, and not let the knee open up. what he is teaching is right. it's just extremely difficult to do, because for me, my body is too uncomfortable with falling forward, that it wants to reflexively catch myself with my foot. I just haven't figured out how t…
