What commenters say. Highly recommended as an exemplary demonstration of starting block technique, low heel recovery, and proper foot placement.

On “Critique my block start”

This is just nitpicking and opinions differ on how the start should be. But you seem to be overstriding. You're foot should be under or behind your center of gravity. Look at Trayvon Bromell's feet. His foot is slightly behind his hips.

On “My friend is practicing for states, and this is his 400m start. Any advice or critiques? (Slow-mo)”

…me to change up his start. He needs to improve everywhere, and needs to work on it in his off season. Edit: Do you see how his right hand is off the ground before anything else? There is no good reason for that to happen. Go watch videos of Trayvon Bromell's start. He's got the best form of any sprinter I've seen, regardless of distance. Edit 2: link to this video There's Trayvon Bromell's start - skip to 0:28 and you'll notice how every movement is simultaneous, and he almost leaps out of his blocks. He keeps his feet low to the ground (he drags his toe's which should be left to professionals or someone who is very experienced). There is no laziness or wasted movement.…

On “How’s the start lookin?”

Good. Faster than mine. Cycling too early tho. Heel lifts at the first step. All the top sprinters seem to do the toe drag or at least low heel recovery for the first few steps. link to this video

On “Start review? Not a track athlete just trying to get faster. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.”

Here’s what’s good: Positive shin angles ✅ Aggressive pushing action—powerful, not quick✅ Here’s what you can do to get better: Your starting position is a bit crunched. Ideally, your front foot should be around two foot lengths behind the start line and the back foot an additional foot length behind that. While you may not use it in your sport, a better 3 point start will help you attain higher quality acceleration mechanics. As mentioned twice in this thread, adopt a more piston like leg action in the first three steps or so. This will result in the foot being lower to the ground, a bit like this. This will poise your foot to strike the ground sooner.

On “Week 3 of block starts. Critique my form. Previous 2 weeks on my profile.”

Notice that by the end of the first step your knee joint is completely locked out while the torso doesn’t really rise to a higher angle at all. You want a good amount of knee extension balanced by hip extension. This will help with the “cycling” issue as well. Notice in this video that both the hip and knee joints are pushing hard but neither lock out. Think about gathering energy in the glute muscles and pulling backwards into the track.

On “Can you guys give feedback on my block starts? Taking all advice”

your arms don't come up high enough. they should go up higher and back down just as fast with force. If you look carefully as soon as your lead hand goes back down so does that lead leg this is true for everyone. Bringing up that arm higher gives more triple extension and more potential force to generate back down. Check out trayvon bromell and cristian coleman's hands at the start and how far they go up in these two video's. [video [video

On “What should I improve ?”

Your back is rounded in the blocks. Set up the blocks so that your back is as nearly straight as possible. As you push out, keep your lower back engaged so that your pelvis doesn’t tuck. After you’ve rotated your torso to its final position, hammer backwards with the lead leg. This will develop on its own as you continue training, but you need to set up the positions first. Check out Trayvon Bromell’s start if you haven’t to see this in action.

On “Please critique my 3pt start (first time on a track in nearly 4 yrs) More info in thread.”

I wouldn’t worry about the cycle for now. It’s not so bad, and improving your power coming out of your stance will make a bigger difference. At the end of your warm up I suggest adding in broad jumps and med ball overhead back throws to improve hip extension. You should see the torso rise during the first step. Try this drill if you can get access to a band and a partner. Mainly using standing starts for now might help with the “bent over” issue. The reason why it’s hard to push is because your muscles can’t fire quickly enough to produce large amounts of force at speed. To solve that issue I would recommend running up a steep hill using the best form possible. This will slow you down…

On “Please tell things he needs to work upon”

Your head is too low and your line of sight is too far underneath. It's ok if your line of sight is real "tucked" at the very start, but even in the next few steps, even as your angle is low, the head has to be essentially in line with that angle, not craned downward. your eyes should be seeing a spot a few feet forward on the ground ahead of your head, not directly downward. Look at Bromell here, for example: [video

On “Judge my block starts?”

You went right into running instead of pushing out of the blocks. It sounds weird but after the first 2 steps you've already stopped driving and are into your actually running phase. link to this video watch how Trayvon Bromell is still 'pushing' himself forward with his feet. He's not started his actual running strides yet.

On “Critique? I’m in the front with the white. The start is the worst part of my race.”

I see, I haven’t seen that one. But in that video the blocks seem very close to the line, not how they are setup normally in practice or competition. And Powell does seem to have a longer push and first step than all the other pros, also being that tall might have sth to do with it. All the other vids I’ve seen they land 15-40cm ish from the line.
