On “Should 400m sprinters run time trials in the off season ?”

No I don’t think it’s necessary. A better use of your energy and time would be the 400-300-200 workout that many college sprint programs do. It’s similar to a time trial because the effort is close to max, but it gives you much more information on where you are than a one-off run. I’m linking a video of Carl Lewis running that workout here if you want to see what it looks like.

On “Don't feed those cats???”

…I attribute most of that to higher volume running during winter training. I personally will be including longer runs in training in preparation for outdoors. eg 200-400m @ 3-4 reps. My best times in the 100m have always come off the back of having a lactic based session earlier that week - usually fast 150s. On “Pls explain”

link to this video - this isn’t the exact video I was thinking about but you’ll hear him telling his guys to stand tall and get their feet down. In the videos I saw, he talked about not gliding (which is what you tend to do when you run on your toes) and when you watch those fastU videos you’ll see the same thing. They kind of use different terms, but they’re both talking about the same thing...keeping your knees up and keeping your feet down. I wish I would have known about this when I was in high school because I would have been so much faster. I was a glider.
