Mutaz Essa Barshim and Bogdan Bondarenko compete in a historic high jump battle at the 2014 Brussels Diamond League.

In 2014, Mutaz Essa Barshim and Bogdan Bondarenko engaged in one of the most enthralling high jump battles in history, swapping blows throughout the season in their bid to claim the Diamond Trophy. By the time the final in Brussels came around, the two remained neck and neck, and the stage was set for a groundbreaking competition. While Bondarenko sailed to 2.40m without problem, Barshim nearly stumbled at 2.37m, before rallying and jumping 2.40m himself at the first attempt. What followed was a moment of athletics history, as the Qatari cleared 2.43m to take victory, the IAAF Diamond League title and move his PB to within two centimetres of Javier Sotomayor's world record.

What commenters say. Linked to help jumpers internalize a rapid approach tempo and maintain focus during high-height attempts.

On “2.03 critique?”

…r. Upstream cause: rapid tempo change, downstream effect: slowing tempo, drifting out of your lean. Side effects of the change: jumping more vertically, possibly spending more time running the "shallow" part of your curve so maybe needing to move your approach back and in so for example 13'x65' => 12'6"x68'. Edit: get this tempo into your brain: link to this video…

On “Tips please”

…u feel you get what I am sayin' put the bar up to your goal height, maybe a few inches higher, then do these same drills. NOTHING CHANGES. That's a big problem I am having with attempting PRs, I try to change it up during the jump. Do these drills and let them become instinct. Sorry for the spew, the class I am teaching is doing a project lol link to this video…
