What commenters say. Recommended to show how long elite jumpers hold their vertical knee drive before arching.

On “New High Jumper. The bar is at about 6’5 or 6’6.(I’m 6’7). Just started trying high jump 3 weeks ago. Any tips on my technique? Can’t quite get the arch right… Also with that jump how high could i clear? Thanks”

As soon as you takeoff your throwing your head back and trying to get into that "arching" position. At takeoff you want to be tall and be able to draw a straight line from your head to your foot. You want to hold your vertical for as long as possible link to this video see how long stefan Holm holds that vertical knee drive position. I like to think of it as holding your vertical until your chest reaches the bar then throwing your head back and hips up. also I think your curve is a bit wide so your coming into the bar too parallel but can't really tell from this angle. The most important part of high jump is the run-up and the run-up is probably the reason you can't get into that proper arch position.…

On “High Jump as a distance runner?”

I'll say one thing - high jumping is a whole lot more fun than distance running. The 2004 Olympic champ was only 5'11" and jumped 7'10.5", so being very tall is not a requirement: [video
