What commenters say. Linked to illustrate proper block clearance, achieving full leg extension, and hitting the post position during the start.

On “On incline but what’s wrong between my 1st and 2nd step?”

Think about pushing back through the ground and not rushing the step, try some falling starts or hills to get that feeling of pushing horizontally. You want to be pushing back all the way through to triple extension rather than picking your foot quickly off the floor, you need to consciously try and get that feeling and eventually it will click it can take time. See the way Asafa Powell's foot only leaves the block once he has full extension? You want that feeling on the first few strides as well, obviously if you're not as strong as Asafa you won't have exactly the same outcome but you want to get as close to that as possible. Also just to add, you're slightly bent at the hips (may be du…

On “How can I force myself to stay lower?”

…ell you to learn to be comfortable in the blocks and in the set position. Then at the start, really focus on getting full extension of your front leg (in the blocks) and getting to the "post position." Look at this video for the post position--Asafa hits the post right at about 36 seconds. His front leg is in line with his back and neck and head: link to this video Good luck with your season!…

On “Ronnie Baker advocating for triple extension…thoughts?”

…hink Mann is saying *not* to hit full extension in the first flight phase/at block exit. He's saying most people will begin to leave the blocks before they've hit full extension. Whether or not that's because extension provides little extra force or has some other mechanical reason to it is up for debate I think, but as always the classic example: link to this video Note his front foot begins pulling away from the block while his knee still has a bit of flexion in it, but he still extends fully by the time his foot has left the block. To put it another way, triple extension isn't somehow magically going to lead to tons more force development in the blocks, because there's very little contact with the…

On “Good cues to fix excessive torso flexion out of blocks?”

…erself. This might be a strength issue, but she really is not using the blocks at all, she is just falling out of them. To really explode out of the blocks there is an initial force with both feet into the blocks, then driving the knee of the back leg and the opposite arm forward to help clear the blocks and get the body straightened out. EDIT: link to this video Obviously looks different in slow motion, but look how long both of Asafa Powell's feed stay pushing into the blocks allowing his body to start to unfold. Also, it is kind of hard to see at the edge of the screen, but see how once his back foot comes out of the blocks and gets to the correct position it stops moving forward and instead of f…
