What commenters say. Highly recommended by commenters for its clear explanation of 800-meter race tactics, specifically the two-second positive split strategy.

On “I am cooked”

link to this video So let me get this straight. You want to try something new on race day (Celsius) and you’re a 2:11 guy and you plan to go out like you’re a 1:54 guy? 🎶dumb ways to die! 🎶 I’d open with a 62-64 and then hang on for dear life. At least that’s somewhat realistic.

On “Advice to How to not die the second 400 of the 800”

…g. Then just add some of that stuff I recommended into your plan a lot earlier next year and I promise you’ll have better results. Here’s a video from a former Olympic 800 runner I looked up to when I was growing up in track. He explains how to run a fast 800 and has a ton of other videos with great information now that he’s retired. Good luck. link to this video…

On “Anyone got some tips for running the 800m I’m trying to go sub 2:15”

link to this video Nick says to go for a 2 second faster first lap. x + x + 2 = 2\*60+15 2x = 2\*60+13 x = 60+6.5 So a 66.5 and a 68.5 lap. Nick further split the splits evenly, so 33.25, 33.25, 34.25, 34.25 for your 200m splits. My other tip is to only run 800m if you can. Cut in as slowly as possible, take the entire backstretch, no passing on the curve, etc.

On “800 meter race/training tips”

Nick Symmonds, an Olympian and 800m specialist, recommends a 2 second positive split in the 800. For 2:00 that would mean going through 400m in 58. The third 200m (400-600m) are the most critical and the last 200m take care of themselves. I’ll let him speak for himself: link to this video Edit: I got the splits in the example wrong. 59 for first lap, 61 for second.
