On “240 lbs learning to sprint. My starting point.”

…p driving a car everywhere and choose a bike by default. And you won’t beat up your body in the process. Alongside biking, learn basic sprint drills (A march, A skip, high knees, butt kicks). Find a sprinter warmup on Google or Youtube and just learn the basics. Most people have too strong of quads relative to hamstrings and back because all most folks do in the gym (for those who do leg day) is quad-dominant exercise. That is another path to injury. On “I want to run a 12 seconds 100 meter or lower…and I still have a lot to go.”

Do the atg program. Start with zero. You have tons of time to develop. The purpose of the atg program is to increase strength through the full range of motion, gradually. This will allow you to naturally hold stronger shin angles coming out of the blocks and decrease injury chance. Also later on in the programs you’ll begin working Nordic hamstring curls. All top level sprinters are capable of performing nordics. Nordics should be regressed in difficulty to your ability. If anything start working then now. On “Form analysis”

Your core needs to be stronger to support a longer drive phase. Right now your body is ready to stand straight up by 7-8 meters. You’re just keeping your head down trying to force staying low. Strengthen your core to support and strengthen the back chain at full leg extension to make use of a strong core. Check out this video, it will give you plenty of ideas for training link to this video

Build from the ground up. Like the 30 year coaching vet or bot above mentioned, arch strength and calf raises are critical. Listen to Ben Patrick (KneesOverToesGuy) when it comes to building strength from your point of contact (toes/feet) thru the chains that need to absorb/control the huge forces produced during sprinting.
