Ernie Clark demonstrates reaction and block start drills designed to improve reaction time and first-step technique.

Reaction Drills and Block Start Drills used in that I use in current practices and camps. These drills have helped athletes improve immensely in both reaction time to the gun and technique on the first step.

What commenters say. Recommended for athletes looking to improve their reaction time, block starts, and arm action through simple drills.

Not a big drills guy for this one; I usually teach with arm cues to start so it's not one I hit on often, but my preferred arm action cues are "split your arms" or "punch past your head." You already do this well, of course! Just after that little backward movement Some drills here that may be of use - some are more focused on cueing the max range of motion of the arm action but I think the first few are probably worthwhile and modifiable just to focus on making the first movement be the split. link to this video

I also can't suggest enough doing plyometrics right now. Things you can do at home. You can set up some small barriers and sprint over them too. Stuff that will just fall over if you clip it on accident. And finally, if you can get out and sprint, you should. You can talk to your coach and see if they have any workouts to do or will set you up with a plan going into summer so you can come in next season with more speed built up. If you're left high and dry, I will gladly put together some sprint stuff for your summer if you want.
