What commenters say. Recommended to illustrate Michael Johnson's unique running form, specifically his low knee drive and unconventional stride style.

No worries. And yeah, end of the 400 probably isn't a very fair example, hah. Even if you can't get your knees very high for a reason like yours, you could instead try focusing on getting your left heel up higher as it comes underneath your butt. Michael Johnson was a special breed of athlete, but if you look at his form, you'll see that his knees didn't actually come up all that high - but his heels do, and runs very upright as well.

On “Should I change my stride in the 400m?”

From your description I imagine your style of running to be somewhat similar to that of the legendary Michael Johnson. Have a look at this video: link to this video (i can't remember the reddit syntax for links, and I'm on my phone) There is nothing wrong in feeling comfortable with your personal style of running, but be prepared for coaches that may want to help you develop a more conventional technique.

I honestly don''t think I've ever seen a more ridiculous argument Here I am watching Michael Johnson obliterate a world-class field as he sets the 400m world record of 43.18, and see a comment saying he had the best endurance of any athlete ever. Johnson's 400 is something we probably won't see broken for a very long time, but come on, it's the 400...it's not about the endurance... But that comment was OK because the race was so amazing. Then this guy Geo, who is supposedly a track veteran, starts piping up about how Johnson could easily run 1:32 by doing back to back 46's, as they would be "jogs in the park" for him. His defense of it, and also shitting on distance greats like Kenenisa Be…
