On “can someone help explain low vs high calf insertions?”
High calf insertions mean a longer achilles tendon. In jumping, generally lower calf insertions require more speed and lower ground contact, such as in this comparison between these two Olympic high jump medalits , Holm and Thomas.

There have been sprinters with lower calf achilles insert, such as Christophe Lemaitre

Even Usain Bolt has moderately high achilles , nothing too out of the ordinary.
