Coach Karim demonstrates how to maintain proper upright posture and avoid breaking at the waist while sprinting.

Get the Sprinting Master Class and Training Guide outperformsports.com/product/sprinting-smarter-sprinting-fas… Run faster with proper sprinting posture and technique. In order to maximize speed you have to be able to apply maximum force to the ground. This video addresses some of the biggest mistakes made by sprinters and coaches (i.e. staying low and breaking at the waist). Coach Karim talks about how to develop proper posture (the hard post) and demonstrates one of the first sprinting drills to achieve this. Olympian Jeremy Dodson shares his insight into developing proper posture and the hard post to maximize speed.

What commenters say. Frequently recommended as a clear explanation of sprinting posture, triple extension, and the hard post concept.

On “240 lbs learning to sprint. My starting point.”

…p driving a car everywhere and choose a bike by default. And you won’t beat up your body in the process. Alongside biking, learn basic sprint drills (A march, A skip, high knees, butt kicks). Find a sprinter warmup on Google or Youtube and just learn the basics. To understand what successful basics look like, check out these videos: Footstrike: link to this video Posture: link to this video Check out KneesOverToesGuy’s video which explains why training your back chain is so important. Most people have too strong of quads relative to hamstrings and back because all most folks do in the gym (for those who do leg day) is quad-dominant exercise. That is another path to injury. …ode forward, stay down longer, and gradually come up. Your body should be in a straight line: at an angle from the foot planted up to your head.** Cause and effect: * You come up too quickly = you losing power to that upward movement * You're bent at the waist = loss of power due to poor mechanics (more rear action than forward) Check out this link to this video on posture, which explains it really well. These two are easy to spot in a form video: * Can you draw a straight line from your foot to your head? * Is that straight line at an angle? * This angle should gradually get smaller over each stride Do that and you'll see big improvements and then some of us can help you dial it in further.…

On “Does a hard post make your body reach vertical too soon in the 100m?”

Aka triple extension, the body posture while taking the first step out of the blocks. This guy explains it very well link to this video

On “Please someone help with form”

I have a few points 1) it’s impossible to give you sprinting advice when the only video is you slow-jogging. Form is very different than a sprint 2) nothing wrong with your feet pointed a little bit out. In fact it might be optimal for sprinting because it allows you to engage more glute (very strong muscle) if you have good form 3) nobody here is going to give you a magic bullet. Just go watch a bunch of different youtube videos on sprinting. You’ll figure it out. Start here link to this video

On “Need help with 40yd stance start”

Frankly, your running form is poor all around. I would not expect a soccer player to have good running mechanics, but I would certainly encourage you to learn good mechanics to become a more efficient runner. Fix your general mechanics first. Then worry about start form. I would start here: Posture Basics - link to this video Accel Basics - link to this video More Advanced Accel - link to this video While you won’t be using blocks, the concepts still translate to 3 point starts.

On “Sprint form help”

Looks like you have a good base. I would suggest first learning the concept of dorsiflexion. Use sprint drills (A march, A skip, etc) before every practice to drill this movement into your brain over time. Check out this video for background: link to this video Also you are running in the back yard a little bit. Here is another good resource from the same creator: link to this video

On “Is my top speed technique optimal”

It’s far from optimal. But you have some good building blocks to start from. The main issue I see is that you are “running in the back yard.” Check this video out: link to this video

On “100m Starting Technique”

…Your body needs to put force into the ground in this position (you don’t get a wall support on the track, you need strength to balance forces). You need to learn to push using your entire body, not just your legs. Also… you are going to hurt yourself running on your heels. Learn the basics here. A strong foundation takes you far! On “11 year old son wants to get faster”

B-skips are trickier. The idea is to cycle the leg in front of the body and allow the hamstring to relax (as opposed to contract) at the top of the cycle. Ultimately, I think you don't need to be too technical at 11. High knees and (correct) butt kicks (the way you've taught him) should be enough until he gets to high school. Plyos like bounding will probably pay off more at his age. As far as "pushing forward", this isn't a super helpful cue, and it might be leading to this forward lean he's got in the sprint clip. There should be a straight line from his hips to the top of his head. To accelerate, forward pivot should happen in the ankles, not hips (shown at exactly 50s in this video…
