Danny Foley explains how forces are redistributed throughout the kinetic chain and how poor ankle stiffness affects the knee during high-speed running.

🦵 The knee often pays the price for what's happening at the hip and ankle. But understanding why requires looking beyond the knee itself. In this clip from the ALTIS Team Speed Coach Certification, Danny Foley breaks down how forces are redistributed throughout the kinetic chain, and what that means for athletes exposed to high-speed running. Consider two common scenarios: šŸ”¹ Poor ankle stiffness: When the foot and ankle struggle to provide an effective interface with the ground, the knee may be required to absorb greater force demands. šŸ”¹ Limited hip rotation or lumbopelvic control: When the hip cannot adequately manage rotational demands, the knee may be required to provide additional stability, increasing compressive stress. The important consideration? It's rarely one force, one movement, or one isolated weakness that determines an athlete's risk. It's the combination of forces, the magnitude and frequency of exposure, and the individual athlete's capacity to tolerate them. And that's where effective coaching becomes a question of understanding relationships, managing load, and making better decisions. ā³ 6 DAYS TO GO — TEAM SPEED STARTS OCTOBER 19! We believe the Team Speed Coach Certification is the most important professional development program available for coaches responsible for speed in team sport. Created by ALTIS in collaboration with Les Spellman and Danny Foley, this first-of-its-kind, six-month certification brings together three world-renowned experts to address the full spectrum of speed development. 🧠 Stuart McMillan & ALTIS: How to think — biomechanics, systems, coordination, and decision-making. šŸƒ Les Spellman: How to apply — on-field speed development, progressions, and programming. šŸ’Ŗ Danny Foley: How to sustain — athlete health, readiness, tissue capacity, and performance. Three leading perspectives. One comprehensive system for developing speed in team sport. ----- šŸ“… We begin October 19. Limited places remain. šŸ”— loom.ly/u1Uvkgg
