Coach Ken Harnden explains why running on your toes reduces speed and discusses the importance of proper dorsiflexion and ground contact.

Get the Sprinting Smarter Master Class outperformsports.com/product/sprinting-smarter-speed-progres… Dorsiflexion is one of the most important aspects of proper sprinting form and developing speed. It doesn't matter what the rest of the body is doing, if you don't have correct ground contact you won't sprint fast. In this video you'll learn why running on your toes dramatically reduces speed. Coach Ken Harnden shares 3 problems that sprinters encounter when they run on their toes and why you should strike the ground with the ball of the foot. He also talks about some drills to perform to develop correct ground contact. Great sprinters 'move like athletes,' and athletes don't run on their toes. Watch sprinting demonstrations by Olympians Warren Fraser and Cejhae Greene. Athlete insight section includes Cejhae talking about how he learned dorsiflexion and developed his sprinting technique.

What commenters say. Recommended to help sprinters understand dorsiflexion, correct their ground contact, and avoid running excessively on their toes.

On “How’s does the top end look? I think it fine but 2nd perceptive have saved my ass a lot.”

looking good overall, some ankle issues; can still improve with dorsiflexion (see link to this video

On “Any tips on technique. ( I know it’s not the best video )”

Dorsiflexion and land right under your hip will fix. See this link to this video Note that you don’t run on your toe. You either run on the ball of foot or mid of foot ( depends individually)

On “Form critique ”

Yeah that will help you put more force into the track. Here is a video that gives your some drills/explanations on it, but yeah doing some research into dorsiflexion, ankle and foot strength, and triple extension will help you. [video

On “Flat foot contact on skips and plyos?”

If you work on some level of heel first contact to roll through you’re going to generally end up plantar flexed appropriately, it’s just usually a problem for guys that they’re too toesy and so this is an overcorrection that works itself into running naturally when you drill it, plyos generally should be a little bit more full foot contact anyway depending on contact times, imagine trying to do power bounds on the ball of your foot, you’d end up smashing into the ground anyway and very inefficiently below is a good explaination link to this video

…round feel it in the ball of your big toe as the ground push off comes. Three: hip mobility work, 90/90 and pigeon position, 90/90 switches, adductor stretches side to side, make sure his hips are open and functional Four: drill with intent of foot contact, please follow the advise in this video it’s gold for people with poor contact mechanics link to this video Also below video link to this video Five: rudiment jump series following proper foot landing mechanics link to this video I think following all that advise should lead to the fix, he needs better hip posture, stronger calves and feet and stronger in the right way, and to drill contact properly, it may take some time but it’s worth the effort to do all of these…
