Stuart McMillan outlines three fundamental principles of acceleration to help coaches evaluate and structure their speed training sessions.

Acceleration can be explained in three sentences: 1️⃣ Project the center of mass horizontally, as fast and as far as possible. 2️⃣ Do it by extending the hip. 3️⃣ Extend the hip by pushing the foot back or driving the opposite thigh forward. Commit those principles to memory, and they give you a clear lens for evaluating everything in an acceleration session. Every drill and every element of the warm-up should prepare the athlete to solve that task.
