What commenters say. Highly recommended by commenters to study optimal toe and ankle mechanics, heel elevation, and hip extension during block starts.

…(at least 30s static, dynamic is useless for mobility) and combine with hamstring exercises. I would deemphasize quad training as much as possible, instead aiming for hip hinge type movements that activate the glutes Finally, I would watch both sprint youtube channels/tiktoks and raw pro footage to see where your form differs from pros: 1. [video (Note how Coleman's heels literally do not touch the ground at any point. This is how you would create horizontal shin angles and continue to accelerate) 2. [video (This channel has a lot of short videos that explain mistakes that a sprinter at your level would be making. In this video he's talking about negative foot speed. If you h…

On “Advice on the Block Starts?”

Great job on the extension. But you're cycling too fast and your trailing leg (forward in the start) is coming *up* instead of forward. First ~45s of this video is (I believe) Asafa Powell: link to this video The biggest takeaway from this is to see how long he spends floating. You may not be able to float that far yet, but it's the idea that you're "jumping" out of the blocks, not spinning. It's not a sprint stride. The legs should never come upwards during a start. It's a much more linear motion than upright. Imagine trying to sprint up stairs or a steep hill. Your ankle isn't going to be kissing your ass on the way up. You don't have the time (and it doesn't help) to do that, you need to get…

On “How does my acceleration look pt. 2 (no toe dragging)”

My analysis: I would say that you tend to land very far in front of your hips which creates braking forces/prevents acceleration. -> [video \+ [video (Just watch every youtube short and video from this channel to be honest) When you land, your heel is relatively low to the ground, which partially is because you are running on grass but overall creates vertical as opposed to horizontal shin angles. You run with something of a hip hinge, but because you are overstriding you are not actually creating much velocity in each stride. Compare to someone like Asafa Powell, who ran in a more hip hingey style, he still gets better shin angles and is more underneath his center of mass. ->…

On “How is my sprint form looking, I’m the one on the far left in the black shirt”

Try to drive with your hip flexors and glutes, and fall forwards instead of reaching with your leg. Here is an example: christian coleman block start slow mo - YouTube You can see how he gets to that 90 degree angle in his hip and knee (front side), and then drives it down/backwards under his center of mass. If you compare to your running, you are landing 1. flat footed after a few strides 2. casting the shin forwards (extending your knee) 3. landing with a shin angle closer to vertical than horizontal Stretches and Exercises: 1. Bunny hops + Bottom of foot stretch to improve your forefoot strike 2. Jefferson Curl and hip hinge movements to improve power generation 3. Sit-ups to de…

On “Help with my technique - I think it sucks”

Biggest thing is you need to bend at your toes. This lets you get your heel up off the ground and shin angle low enough to create forward momentum. In jumping you might land with a flat foot and vertical shin angle, but in sprinting the goal is to stay horizontal for as long as possible. Here is an example: christian coleman block start slow mochristian coleman block start slow mo A second issue is that your feet/legs are externally rotated when you run, meaning they point out. This could be caused by not being able to bend at the toes effectively like I said. But it could also be related to numerous other issues, such as tight or immobile hamstrings, poor control of spinal posture/core…

On “Fixing my form”

…r toes can't bend, you end up turning your foot out and rolling through the ankle which destroys your plyometric ability and elongates your ground contact times. It also puts you at greater risk for injuries because each foot strike is being done at end ranges of motion instead of closer to neutral. Example of optimal mechanics at the toe/ankle: [video (Heel is elevated off the ground, ankle remains locked at 90 degrees, toes bend up to 45 degrees) 2. Your mouth is really open, and your body seems kind of tense. While being excitable is not bad for sprinting, it does suggest you have a lack of comfortability in sprinting. Further more, as an athlete, you want to aim to develop maximum co…

On “Beginner sprinter form check”

…ot a personal criticism, but rather it is known by science that the sprinting motor pattern originates from different parts of the brain than running or walking \-Land on your forefoot, aiming for a bend at the toes instead of at the ankle. Do not heel strike or even mid-foot/flat foot strike. Examples: christian coleman block start slow mo \+ [video \-Your shoulders are kind of rotating back and forth, which is perfect for distance running, but in sprinting you want to have lateral head movement and a more rigid torso. On “Block start advice”

I am no expert, but I think you should try to use the tip of your toes in the first steps. Look at coleman block start here. I'm not saying you should exactly like him, it takes alot of practice, but look at his foot in the first steps
