Dan Pfaff explains his systematic approach to correcting movement errors and introducing drills after identifying mechanical red flags in athletes.

Every coach can spot a movement problem, the real question is what happens next. ๐Ÿ‘€ In last night's Live Immersion Session with our current Coaching Eye Cohort, Dan Pfaff broke down how he approaches movement interventions after identifying red flags in an athleteโ€™s mechanics. The process started simpll - first, clarify the movement you want and cue it clearly. If the athlete couldnโ€™t organize the pattern, the next step was introducing drills that helped restore mobility and coordination in the areas creating the restriction. That might have included self-mobilization exercises such as 'butt walks' which affect sacrum / illium movement, rotational drills like the Russian twist series, or structured mobility progressions using hurdles. The goal was never to add complexity - rather - to restore the movement options the athlete needed. ๐Ÿ”ง Dan also challenged common assumptions around injury prevention. For example, the widespread use of Nordic hamstring exercises often ignores the reality that hamstrings operate across two joints and experience rapidly changing demands during high-speed sprinting. Building true resiliency requires a broader spectrum of training exposures. โšก The conversation also explored tools coaches could use when therapy was not available on site. Floss bands and band distraction drills were discussed as ways to help improve joint fluid dynamics and restore movement around areas like the ankle, knee, and hip. ๐Ÿฆถ Throughout the discussion, one theme remained consistent: Good coaching requires understanding why a movement breaks down and choosing interventions that address the cause rather than the symptom. Movement problems rarely exist in isolation. The body always tells a story. Coaches just need to learn how to read it - yet sadly, it is not taught enough. ๐Ÿ“– This type of analysis is exactly what Dan teaches inside The Coaching Eye. ๐Ÿ‘€ If you want to see what Dan sees โ€” and understand what to do about it โ€” the next cohort of The Coaching Eye begins this May. Enrollment is now open. ๐ŸŽ“ Head here to secure your place for our next Coaching Eye Cohort, starting May 2026: loom.ly/qtcqnio
